You can begin using Tally Prime within minutes. You simply have to download the setup file and follow a few simple installation steps and you are good to start almost immediately.
The best thing about configuring Tally always (further enhanced with Tally Prime) is that you can create relevant General Ledgers (GL) and masters on the fly as you make your first entries. Time-consuming initial implementation like in other software and ERPs is not needed.
Download and Install Tally Prime
Before we begin, please note that Tally Prime does not support 32-bit operating systems. In case your computer has a 32-bit OS, you first have to upgrade it to a 64-bit OS before installing Tally Prime.
To begin with, you need to download the Tally Prime installer.
Then double click and run the downloaded setup.exe. You can select a folder for installation or choose the default option provided. Then click on I: Install. In case you already have Tally ERP 9 installed on the computer, you can choose a different folder so that you can use both simultaneously if you want to.
There are various options that can be configured using the C: Configure and O: More Actions buttons. These are in case you wish to configure advanced options and most users can choose to ignore them. If you want to see the screenshots of the various options available, you can see them here.
The installation will begin after you click on I: Install. Once it is completed, the below message is displayed.
Tally Prime is now installed in your computer and you will see the startup screen as below. Next, you have to activate your Tally Prime license.
Tally Prime New License Activation
Click on A: Activate New License.
Enter your Serial Number, Activation Key, and Administrator e-mail ID. The e-mail ID entered here will be linked to your Tally license and will be used for all future licensing operations such as reactivating or surrendering your license.
Press Enter to proceed. You will now see the Unlock License screen. Here you need to put in the Unlock Key sent to you e-mail ID entered in the earlier screen. You now have to press Enter. Your license is now ready for use!
You can now migrate your older Tally ERP 9 data to Tally Prime or create a new company if this is the first time you are using Tally.
Upgrade Your Tally ERP 9 to Tally Prime
Existing Tally ERP 9 users with a valid TSS can upgrade to Tally Prime for free. In fact, as mentioned earlier on this page, you can install Tally Prime in a separate folder and use both Tally ERP 9 and Tally Prime together also.
When upgrading from Tally ERP 9 to Tally Prime, you need to select R: Reactivate Existing License on the Tally Prime startup screen.
If you are activating a Tally Client that will be connected to a Tally Server, you have to select U: Use License From Network. Tally will then search for all available licenses. You have to select the appropriate license as per the below image before you get the reactivation success message.
Your Tally Prime installation and activation procedure is now complete. Next, you have to migrate your Tally ERP 9 data to Tally Prime. It is essential to take a backup of your data before migrating it to Tally Prime. All your companies have to be migrated one by one.
The image below shows the options available during data migration. After you select a company and press enter, the migration process will start. After the company migration is complete, you will get a state name change notification as shown below which is for your information.
Using Tally Prime for the First Time
If you do not have any existing Tally ERP 9 data to get migrated to Tally Prime and are starting afresh, you need to create a Company so that you can start recording your business transactions.
Create Company
- Create>Company.
Alternatively, Gateway of Tally>Create Company. - Enter the Company Name, Mailing Name, and Address.
While Company Name is for reference in the application, Mailing Name will be printed in all reports. - Select the State and Country.
Based on the country selected, the statutory options will vary. - Verify the Financial year beginning from and Books beginning from dates.
- Set security details, if needed.
- Verify the Base Currency details.
7. A confirmation screen appears with the list of features that you can enable for your company.
Congratulations!. Your Tally Prime installation and data migration or new company creation is now complete.
