Tally Educational Mode – Solutions Inside
Many Tally users have faced this problem. “Tally not accepting any date.” This is basically because Tally suddenly turns to educational mode. Let us look at some of the main reasons why it turns to Tally educational mode and their solutions.
Tally suddenly going to Tally educational mode can be a very irritating problem, more so if it is a multi-user license. It is manageable if you have a single-user license and if it happens once in a while as the reactivation process takes hardly a few seconds if the Tally Dot Net ID and password are readily available. If you have a multi-user license, you got to restart all the Tally clients after reactivating Tally on the server thus taking a little more time. But sometimes, users face the problem of Tally going into Tally educational mode almost every day or in rare cases, a couple of times a day. The problem can really irritate if you do not have the password to reactivate Tally and the person with the registered email ID is not immediately reachable. Due to this, we cannot even reset the password.
If this is a one-off issue with your Tally and you are just looking to reactivate your Tally, you can refer to this guide for a single user or your Tally server. You can refer here to reactivate your client systems’ Tally in case of a multi-user license.
Common Reasons and Solutions
1. Windows Firewall
A common reason is if we do not exclude Tally (Files, Folder as well as Service) in the windows firewall. Due to this, the firewall blocks Tally and it turns to educational mode again and again. The straightforward and simple solution is to configure the firewall and exclude Tally. You should repeat the same steps on all computers running Tally.
2. Antivirus Firewall
Most antiviruses nowadays have an inbuilt firewall. The straightforward and simple solution is to configure the firewall and exclude Tally just like it is done for the windows firewall. Every antivirus has different settings but an experienced IT person should be able to do it in minutes. You should repeat the same steps on all computers running Tally.
3. Hardware Firewall
Tally Prime as a regular process, tries to connect to the Tally Dot Net server on a regular basis and certain features of Tally Prime work only if it is able to connect to the Tally Dot Net Server. In case the administrator does not open the appropriate ports on the firewall, Tally is unable to connect. After a couple of days, it turns to educational mode requiring reactivation. The solution is to enable the relevant ports on the hardware firewall by the network administrator.
4. Local LAN connectivity
A couple of times, Tally works fine on the server, but the clients go in educational mode. This happens due to erratic LAN connectivity. You could use the ping command to test this. There should not be any timeouts and you have to ensure that the ping speed from the client to the server and vice-versa is always less than 1 ms for wired LAN. When the ping speed rises to 5 ms or more, you could experience a disturbance in the network. In such a case, it is imperative to ensure it drops to less than 1 ms. You should check with the ping command for at least 20 minutes at a stretch. A sample command is ping 192.168.0.1 -t where 192.168.0.1 is the IP of the target computer such as the server with which you are testing connectivity.
5. Local LAN configuration
A few times, there are issues with the Tally data folder sharing done on the server (The sharing settings are not properly set or may be set to read-only). This should be set to “Full Access”. Another issue with LAN configuration noticed is improper IPs set for computers or IP conflicts. All computers must have a unique IP, and which should be in the same range. IP settings preferably should be set to DHCP so that there are no conflicts and part computers on DHCP and part computers with manual IP settings should be avoided. Or must be set by an experienced administrator.
6. LAN disabled
A few times, we have noticed that by mistake, users have disabled the LAN due t which connectivity with other computers stops due to which Tally goes into educational mode. In this scenario, all network connectivity for all software and internet access on the affected computer goes down. Just enabling LAN connection, will resolve this immediately.
7. Multiple Tally license files
Sometimes, due to some reason, users activate and surrender the Tally license again and again. This, in some rare instances, generates multiple Tally license (with extension .lic) files in the Tally program files folder on the same computer. To resolve this, you can delete all the Tally.lic files and reactivate Tally again. This ensures you will have only one Tally license file your issue on your computer.
8. Tally.lic file deleted
Sometimes, someone by mistake deletes the Tally.lic resulting in Tally going into educational mode as it cannot find the relevant license. A simple solution will be to reactivate Tally Prime again which will solve the issue. The license file resides in the Tally program files folder.
9. Multiple Gateway Server Service
A few times, multiple Tally Gateway Server Services are found to be running on the same computer due to which Tally will go into educational mode again and again. The solution is to check the list of all services running in service.msc and stop all additional such services leaving only one running. This will solve the problem for good.
How to access services.msc?
On your computer, vavigate to StartàRunàtype as Services.msc and click ok. The list of services on the computer will show.
10. Stoppage of Tally Gateway server service
Sometimes, due to some system temporary issues, the Tally Gateway server service stops; sending Tally into educational mode. Opening service.msc and restarting the service will resolve the problem. Also, your computer should have only one Tally Gateway Server Service which must be in started status. In case there are multiple Tally Gateway Server Services with started status, you must stop all of them permanently barring one.
You can also try the following steps to ensure that your problem is gone for good. In the windows service management screen opened above search for Tally Gateway Service-àRight clickàProperties à Click on Recovery Tab & make the below changes à Click on Apply.
11. Tally.ini settings
Incorrect server settings in Tally.ini file can also cause the problem of Tally not accepting any date. Correcting these settings by opening the file in a notepad will solve the problem. This file is in the Tally program files folder.
12. Tally.exe Problem
This happens in very fewer cases. But it does occur; some system problems corrupt the Tally.exe file. For Tally ERP 9, completely uninstalling and reinstalling Tally resolves this. In Tally Prime, there is an inbuilt repair utility that will check and repair any corrupted system files.
13. Tally settings issue
We also should check the following settings once. They too can cause problems:
Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Advanced Configuration. There, confirm the below settings
- Use absolute URL for HTTP actions should be set to Yes
- Allow Non-HTTP headers should be set to Yes
From our experience, going through all the above steps will surely resolve the problem of your Tally not accepting any date again and again due to Tally going to educational mode.
