What is Tally Virtual User or TVU? After more than 30 years, Tally has made the first ever change to its licensing policy.
While Tally has been primarily a client-server application, many customers have found ingenious methods of taking its capability even further. So, when most users still use, Tally across a LAN in office, many have also started using Tally on Cloud or via RDP or via software such as Citrix etc. There even are a handful of operators who have hosted Tally in their servers and provided Tally as a service to clients! The last scenario, being a violation of Tally’s licensing terms.
With the world now moving faster towards cloud adoption, Tally has decided to now authorize the use of Tally on Cloud. Earlier Tally did not object to it nor provide any support, but they didn’t officially endorse or authorize the use of Tally on Cloud or in a virtual environment. However, now Tally Solutions has officially endorsed the usage of Tally in the virtual world.
How is this achieved?
They have done this by launching a new SKU called Tally Virtual User or TVU. Without wasting much time, let us directly dive in and look at the applicable licensing policy.
Before we read further, it is pertinent to note that Tally licensing has not changed for traditional local LAN usage. It is only applicable when Tally is accessed via RDP like when Tally is hosted on the cloud or accesses via software such as TS Plus, Citrix etc or via thin clients such as n-computing. If you do not use any of these or similar options, then the new policy does not affect you in any way.

Conclusion
TVU does not impact users accessing Tally via its inbuilt remote access mechanism; only users accessing via RDP including thin clients such as n-computing are impacted. We have even more information here. You can also read our FAQ for better understanding.
It is important to keep in mind is that TVU will not have any effect on the end-user experience. The end-user shall continue using Tally as earlier. TVU will have zero impact on speed or performance of Tally either locally or via virtual connectivity.
The best part is that now, customers will officially get support on configuring and troubleshooting of Tally in virtual environments.
